Vox pathfinder 15r canada11/19/2023 I'm a basement player so I don't gig with it.Įvery review you listen to or read on the Champ sings its praises. And I use a Boss Fender '63 Reverb pedal. I've upgraded it with a Warehouse G8C speaker. Ive had Vox Pathfinder 15R for many years and I love it. Anyone else hate it? How is it possible it can be that bad, especially for that kind of money? The Fender is completely handwired, has a solid pine cab, uses a Weber Alnico speaker and lists for $1200.Įvery review you listen to or read on the Champ sings its praises. I paid $70 for the Vox and $50 for the speaker. I plugged it back into the little Vox Pathfinder. It sounded muddy, lifeless, anemic, flat and terrible, even with the reverb pedal with its tone knob turned nearly all the way up. And was completely and utterly disappointed. I found a Fender '57 Custom Champ on a great deal through the Sweetwater Gear Exchange. I'm a basement player so I don't gig with it.īut I started thinking I could probably get better sound from a tube amp. I believe that one is still available new, but does not seem to be as well liked.I own a solid state Vox Pathfinder 15r. The Pathfinder 10 is more of a rectangular shape and a 6.5" speaker. It also has tremolo, with the usual speed and depth dials, plus volume, reverb, gain, treble, and bass knobs. The 15R is, of course, 15 watts, and the R stands for reverb. You might not know that model, since it was discontinued seven years ago, after a dozen-year run. The Pathfinder would be such a nice alternative to have - portable yet powerful - and the fact that it might be going away makes me want it more. Here's the rub: Carroll's amp is a Vox Pathfinder 15R. ![]() I've owned three different Valvetronix amps (VT15, VT40+, AD100-VT), and my current one I basically have set up as the UK 70's model and don't touch many of the other bells and whistles. Even if we agree that the second mode is crap, do people like the overdriven sound from using the "Gain" knob? I only had about 5 minutes with it in the store, I had it barely turned up at all and it was quite loud and clean.Īs for the "boost" button, it was surprisingly aggressive for a "Vox" amp and not all that good, not that I really care if I'm using pedals. But I LOVE the reports that the Pathfinder accepts pedals so well - that's one of the advantages of a clean solid state tone. ![]() Great feedback, thanks! It's a bummer that the one I located isn't the 15R if it's "real" spring reverb (an increasingly rare thing). There's also zero chance my wife will be happy about this. Given that this thing is apparently about to disappear, should I be buying that used Pathfinder 15, like, yesterday? Very happy with my Valvetronix AD100-VT, but it's extremely large and heavy (about 60 pounds). I do have a reverb pedal, and my understanding is that it doesn't have "real" spring reverb on the 15R anyway, despite how they make it sound. I plugged into it yesterday, and it was quite good - though this is the 15 without reverb, not the 15R. ![]() I don't really have a need for a new amp, but my local (mom-and-pop) guitar store had a used Pathfinder for $79. In fact, I'm pretty sure I was in a bar Saturday where a guy was doing that. ![]() The thing even has a line out to plug into larger cabinets, and a lot of people like the tone so much, they mic it up to a PA system and gig with it. It's a 15W solid state amp with an 8" Bulldog speaker, and at $120, it is incredibly lightweight, portable, and offers some clean tones that are far superior to other SS practice amps (some even say they rival the AC30). From search around various forums, it seems that Vox is no longer making their wildly popular Pathfinder 15/15R.
